At Playhouse People, we believe in the transformative power of the Performing Arts. Our story is one of profound personal change and unwavering passion, and it is this story that fuels our mission to inspire and empower every person who joins our community, from babies to adults.

Hi, I’m Siân, and I am the Founder and Director of Playhouse People.  To know why I founded Playhouse People, you will have to sit tight and travel back with me to the early 1990s…

“You need to pull your socks up,” my teacher said angrily. I looked down, perplexed.
“But my socks are already up,” I replied.

My teacher was exasperated, and told me not to be so cheeky. I felt confused and humiliated; I hadn’t meant to make her mad!

As a student I was painfully shy.  I felt constantly overwhelmed as I navigated the complexities of Early Years and Primary education, often feeling lost and unnoticed.

But then, like a beacon in the dark, the Performing Arts entered my life. Joining my hometown’s choir was a turning point—one where blending in and becoming part of a harmonious whole offered solace and a sense of belonging. Over 11 years, the choir became more than just music; it was a journey of friendship, travel, and a deepening love for the arts.

The real metamorphosis came later during my Secondary education. A chance encounter, supporting a friend, led to an unexpected audition. When I was cast as the leading role in a production of Romeo and Juliet, everything started to change. Drama taught me invaluable life skills—confidence, creativity, and collaboration—and these would shape my future.

From those pivotal moments emerged a profound realization: the arts had the power to change lives. I had changed from someone who was shy, embarrassed, and who feared taking risks, into someone who was confident, creative and happy.  I obtained a first-class degree in acting, had a successful career as a professional actress, became a British fully qualified teacher, and have worked as Head of Performing Arts and EAL in various top international schools around the world.  Now, through the founding of my own Performing Arts company, the Playhouse People, I want to be able to help support other young people to find their voice, their confidence, and their own self-belief.

At Playhouse People, we channel this passion into every aspect of our work. We are dedicated to ensuring that every child experiences the joy of the Performing Arts in a safe, nurturing environment. Our mission is to foster confidence, curiosity, creativity, kindness, and collaboration—skills essential for thriving in today’s changing world. We emphasize the journey over the destination, valuing each child’s unique path and contribution.

Our goal is to build a community where every child can thrive.  We believe in the incredible potential of every child, and are committed to providing them with the tools they need to shine.

Join us in our journey. Together, we will make magic, nurture talent, and create a legacy of empowerment through the arts.

Welcome to Playhouse People—where every story begins with belief and ends with brilliance…
